May is CalFresh Awareness Month – Attend LA County’s Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) Community Kick-off Event and Resource Fair!

This year’s #CalFresh Awareness Month theme is The Power of Partnership. The public vent is on Thursday, May 4 at Amelia Mayberry Park in Whittier, 9 am-2 pm for food distribution, resources, activities & more!  LA County’s Internal Services Department will also be on site with their Delete the Divide community information booth.

About: The LA County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) launched its annual CalFresh Awareness Month campaign to publicize the CalFresh Nutrition Program and acknowledge community partners throughout the month of May for helping to raise public awareness year-round. CalFresh is a program that supplies low-income families and individuals with monthly food subsidies while bringing economic benefits to communities. California’s prominent food program provides a vital, hunger safety net. CalFresh benefits enable people and families to purchase nutritional items that will help them live long and healthy lives.  Over the past year, food insecurity hit an all-time high in Los Angeles County with an estimated 873,000 households experiencing at least one instance of food insecurity.
