Building integrated networks for radio, telephone and digital communications, the Telecommunications Branch keeps County Departments in communication with each other, other governmental agencies and citizens. In addition, Telecommunications staff supports 80 major network sites, 13,000 mobile/portable communications units, 16,000 pager users and 75,000 telephone lines.

The Countywide Integrated Radio System (CWIRS) provides a standard, integrated radio communication system for all County Departments as well as other municipal agencies. LAnet, an extensive Countywide network for the transmission of data, voice and images, is an essential component of the County infrastructure. Maintenance and support of these networks is critical to the mission of the County, especially during times of crisis when essential services must continue uninterrupted.
